Ranger is a wonderful German Shepherd Dog (GSD). His one love is walking the trails near where we live. We alternate the Horsham Powerline Trail, with further alternating between 2 different entrances to the park. He (we) also enjoy the Warminster Park, a Naval Air Station converted into a park.

His love for walking is reflected in how he comes to life whenever one of us approaches the door, puts on a coat, or grabs our keys.

As soon as he is outside, he goes into patrol mode, alert about everything going on on our block. He stands on the top landing of our steps and scans the area for trouble and the occasional squirrel or rabbit. Nothing escapes his gaze, not even that deadly “Killer Leaf” that scurries by.

My favorite time of day to walk Ranger is the early morning, around 0330 or so. We are sometimes joined by the neighborhood fox(es). In fact, when we don’t see the fox, Ranger tries hard to find him, tracking their scent all over the hood.
